Aluminium Oxide
is designed to
sharpen bench chisels, carving
tools and plane irons. Work your
way from lower grits. To achieve a
fine finish use a 240 grit belt.
Ceramic
is a great choice for re-
profiling damaged tools. The
heavier 60 grit option is an effi-
cient choice for removing material,
while the finer 120 grit will provide
a good finish.
Trizact
is designed to handle the
demands of all steels. Not strictly
‘grits’, these belts are built using
brick and pyramid abrasive shap-
ing. The highest 3000‘grit’will sharpen to two microns
(same sharpness as a disposable razor blade) & provide
a factory finish on all steels.

Sorby Tool Tip Holder
ProEdge Small Knife Jig
Using the long grind jig on the Fingernail Profiler,
Deluxe Universal Sharpening System or the ProEdge
allows for three different types of profile to be pro-
duced on bowl and spindle gouges. It will produce a
fingernail profile, a long grind and an extra long grind
depending on which location hole the profile arm is
used. It fits onto the bar in replacement of the origi-
nal fingernail jig that is standard on either of the two
sharpening systems and is used in exactly the same
way but with the three options.
The Tip Holder is a great and inexpensive sharpening
accessory. Being double ended it allows the turner to
hold comfortably almost every Robert Sorby tool tip
without the fear of catching fingers on a sharpening
belt or a grinding wheel. This useful addition can be
used to hold an array of cutters. Please note: This is
NOT the same tip holder as used with the TurnMaster.
The knife jig consists of a back plate, raised wear plate,
universal arm and knife holder. The kit comes with a
set of full instructions and a video instruction can be
seen on Robert Sorby’s YouTube site. The small knife
holder is ideal for pocket knives, carving knives and
blades up to 8”long.
The Pigtail Mandrel, The Buffing Mop and The Ultra
Fine Buffing Compound all together allow you to con-
vert the Sorby ProEdge Sharpening System into a tool
buffing work station. The Pigtail Mandrel is used to
attach the Buffing Mop to the ProEdge machine. The
BuffingMop stays in placewithout the use of any tools.
Simply apply the Buffing Compound to the Buffing
Mop while it is spinning and start buffing to achieve
a high polish sheen on any steel tool. The mandrel,
mop and compound can be purchased separately or
as a set.
